Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 5:11-37

“You are blessed, Blessed Name, when you are condemned and persecuted, and people say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. When that happens, Blessed Name, rejoice and get excited, for great is your reward in heaven. Remember Blessed Name, that they persecuted the prophets who were before you, too.

Blessed Name, you are the salt of the earth; but if you lose My flavor, how can you possibly be made salt again? Blessed Name, you would then be good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

Blessed Name, you are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket. I lit you, Blessed Name, and put you on a lampstand, so that you would give light to all people around you. That is why, Blessed Name, you need to let your light so shine before people, that they see your good works Blessed Name, and glorify your Father in heaven.

“Do not think that Jesus came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. He did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

“For assuredly, I say to you, Blessed Name, until heaven and earth pass away, not one penstroke will pass from the law, not until all is fulfilled.

Blessed Name, if you break any one of these commandments, and teach others to do so, you shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but, Blessed Name, if you do and teach them, you shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

“Let me make it clear, Blessed Name, unless your personal righteousness far exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, Blessed Name, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

“You have heard Blessed Name, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you, Blessed Name, that whenever you are angry with another person, you shall be in danger of the judgment. And Blessed Name, when you say to another person, ‘You stupid fool!’ you Blessed Name, shall be in danger of the council & in danger of hell fire.

“Therefore Blessed Name, if you bring your gift to the altar, and I remind you that another person has something against you, leave your gift at the altar, and go your way. Blessed Name, first settle with them, then come and offer God your gift. Don’t try to use Me Blessed Name as an excuse to not meet your responsibilities to others!

“Whenever you owe another person, Blessed Name, satisfy them quickly, or they will deliver you to the judge, the judge will hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. I say to you, Blessed Name, you will not get out of there till you have paid the last penny of what you owe.

Blessed Name, you have heard, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ However I say to you Blessed Name, that whenever you look at someone with lust in your heart, you have already committed adultery with them in God’s eyes!

Blessed Name, if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; for it is better for you to lose your guilty eye than for your whole body to be cast into hell. Further, Blessed Name, if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw away; for it is better for you to lose your guilty hand than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

“Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ I say to you that if you divorce your spouse for any reason except their adultery, you cause them to commit adultery; and whoever marries someone who divorces at the drop of a hat like that commits adultery.

Blessed Name, you have heard that it was said, ‘Do not swear falsely, but perform your oaths to the Lord.’ I say to you, Blessed Name, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you, Blessed Name, swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. Blessed Name, let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ Don’t use My name as if I were some kind of notary, because that is warped.”
